Short answer
Zoho Books is cheaper (free under US$50,000 revenue, paid plans from S$15 a month billed yearly, before GST) and suits micro businesses and Zoho users. Xero costs more but files GST F5 to IRAS directly and is on IMDA's InvoiceNow-Ready list, which matters for GST-registered firms.
Zoho Books vs Xero: quick comparison
Prices and features from Zoho Books' Singapore pricing page and Xero's Singapore pricing with its price-change notice. Approximate, as of October 2026.
Zoho Books
CheapestS$0 to S$54+/mo (before tax)
- Free plan for revenue under US$50,000 a year
- Standard S$18/mo, or S$15/mo billed yearly
- Generates GST F5; you file it in myTax
- Not on IMDA's InvoiceNow-Ready list (12 Oct 2026)
- Strong if you already use Zoho CRM or Inventory
Best for: Micro businesses, non-GST-registered firms, Zoho users.
Xero
Most common with SG accountantsS$39 to S$95/mo incl. GST
- S$42 / S$77 / S$99 from 1 November 2026
- Files GST F5 to IRAS from Xero
- On IMDA's InvoiceNow-Ready list
- Documented direct feeds for DBS, OCBC and UOB
- Starter limited to 20 invoices and 5 bills
Best for: GST-registered SMEs and anyone whose accountant works in Xero.
Note the tax difference when comparing: Zoho says its prices exclude local taxes, so add 9% GST; Xero's Singapore prices already include GST.
Price: what each plan costs in Singapore
| Plan | Monthly price | Users / limits |
|---|---|---|
| Zoho Books Free | S$0 | 1 user + 1 accountant; revenue under US$50,000 a year |
| Zoho Books Standard | S$18 (S$15 billed yearly) | 3 users; adds bank feeds and multi-currency |
| Zoho Books Professional | S$36 (S$30 billed yearly) | 5 users; adds inventory, purchase orders, projects |
| Zoho Books Premium | S$54 (S$45 billed yearly) | 10 users; budgets, fixed assets, vendor portal |
| Xero Starter | S$39 (S$42 from 1 Nov 2026) | Quotes, 20 invoices, 5 bills a month |
| Xero Standard | S$70 (S$77 from 1 Nov 2026) | Unlimited invoices and bills |
| Xero Premium | S$95 (S$99 from 1 Nov 2026) | Adds multi-currency |
For a business sending more than 20 invoices a month, the realistic comparison is Zoho Standard at about S$16 to S$20 with GST against Xero Standard at S$77 from November. Over a year that gap is several hundred dollars, so the question is whether Xero's compliance features and ecosystem save you that much time or accounting fees.
GST F5 filing: direct vs export and file
Both handle Singapore GST codes and produce the F5 figures. The difference is the last step.
- Zoho Books: its GST F5 help page says you generate the return, review and adjust it, export it, and submit it manually to IRAS through myTax, then mark it as filed in Zoho.
- Xero: prepares the GST F5 from your transactions and files it to IRAS from inside Xero, per its help article on filing a GST F5 return.
Manual filing is not hard: it means retyping the boxes into myTax each quarter. The risk is a typo or a version mismatch between what is in the books and what was filed. If you are not GST-registered, this difference does not matter. Our Xero GST F5 checklist shows what to check before any filing.
InvoiceNow readiness: the bigger difference
IRAS is bringing all GST-registered businesses into the GST InvoiceNow requirement in phases. It already applies to new voluntary GST registrants from 1 April 2026, and existing GST-registered businesses are scheduled to follow in bands from 2028 to 2031. In scope, you must send invoice data to IRAS through an InvoiceNow-ready solution.
IMDA publishes a list of InvoiceNow-Ready Solution Providers. In the version updated 12 October 2026, Xero is listed and Zoho Books is not. Zoho publishes InvoiceNow explainers for Singapore, but we could not find it on IMDA's list.
Our guide to InvoiceNow (Peppol) set-up for SMEs explains the requirement, dates and grants.
Bank feeds, apps and accountants
Bank feeds. Xero documents direct feeds for DBS, OCBC and UOB; see our guide to Xero bank feeds. Zoho's pricing page lists bank feeds from the Standard plan up; check whether your specific bank account connects directly or needs statement imports.
Apps. Xero's Singapore app store has connectors for most payment, e-commerce, payroll and expense tools used locally; our guide to connecting Shopify, Stripe and HitPay to Xero shows how they reconcile. Zoho's advantage is its own suite: if you already run Zoho CRM, Inventory or Desk, Zoho Books shares the same customer and product data without a connector.
Accountants. Many Singapore bookkeepers and accounting firms work mainly in Xero. Ask yours before choosing; if they would have to learn Zoho Books, your savings may come back as fees.
Which should a small Singapore business choose?
Choose Zoho Books if
- You are not GST-registered and revenue is small
- You already use Zoho CRM, Inventory or Zoho One
- You do your own books and want the lowest cost
- You need inventory and projects at a lower price
Choose Xero if
- You are GST-registered, or will be soon
- InvoiceNow applies to you now or within a few years
- Your accountant works in Xero
- You want direct DBS, OCBC or UOB feeds and many local apps
If you are moving between systems, our guide to switching from QuickBooks to Xero covers cut-over dates, conversion balances and record keeping; the same steps apply when moving from Zoho Books.
Do it yourself or get help?
Both are easy to start on your own: sign up, set your GST details and import contacts. The work that takes time is connecting bank feeds, payment apps and invoice templates, and getting InvoiceNow working if it applies to you.
Our Xero / QuickBooks Integration (S$390) connects bank feeds and payment and store apps and sets up invoice templates and reminders. If InvoiceNow applies to you, our InvoiceNow (Peppol) Setup (S$190) registers your Peppol ID through an IMDA-accredited access point, connects it to your accounting software and sends a test e-invoice. Your accountant remains responsible for the GST figures.
Frequently asked questions
Zoho's Singapore pricing page lists a free plan for one user plus one accountant, available as long as revenue for the financial year stays under US$50,000. It includes invoicing, bank reconciliation, GST tracking and F5 return preparation. Bank feeds and multi-currency start on the paid Standard plan.
Zoho's help page says Zoho Books generates the GST F5 return, which you review, export and then submit manually through the IRAS myTax portal, before marking it as filed in Zoho. Xero files the F5 to IRAS from inside the software.
Zoho Books was not on IMDA's InvoiceNow-Ready Solution Provider list updated 12 October 2026, while Xero was. If the GST InvoiceNow requirement applies to you, ask Zoho what it supports and check IMDA's latest list before choosing, or plan for a separate Access Point.
Part of the gap is tax: Xero's Singapore prices include 9% GST, while Zoho's exclude local taxes. The rest reflects features that matter for many GST-registered firms, such as direct GST F5 filing, IMDA InvoiceNow listing, direct local bank feeds and a large app and accountant ecosystem.
Yes. Choose a conversion date at the start of a GST period, enter opening balances from Zoho's trial balance and bring across unpaid invoices and bills. Export your Zoho records first and keep them for at least five years, as IRAS requires for accounting records.
