Short answer
Choose Wix if you need PayNow through HitPay, more add-on apps and flexible layouts. Choose Squarespace for polished templates, simpler editing and an all-in-one feel, accepting Stripe and PayPal only. Both lock your design in: moving off later means a rebuild.

Taking payments in Singapore: PayNow, cards and fees
This is the biggest practical difference for local businesses, because many Singapore customers prefer PayNow.
- Wix: Wix's available payment providers list includes Stripe, PayPal and Atome (Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia). Its HitPay connection guide lists Singapore as supported, with payment methods including PayNow QR, cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and GrabPay. Wix allows only one provider for credit card payments at a time.
- Squarespace: Squarespace's own payment service is not offered in Singapore; its supported countries article lists Squarespace Payments for the US, Canada, UK, parts of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Singapore stores connect Stripe for cards and wallets, and PayPal. PayNow is not among the payment methods Squarespace lists for its Stripe connection.
- Platform fees: Squarespace Basic adds a 2% transaction fee on online store sales and 7% on digital content and memberships; Core removes the store fee. Payment processor fees apply on top on both platforms.
SEO controls, bookings and online selling
Both platforms give you the SEO basics: editable page titles and descriptions, custom URLs, automatic sitemaps, image alt text and redirects. Neither will rank a thin site; content and a complete Google Business Profile matter more than the builder.
| Need | Wix | Squarespace |
|---|---|---|
| Appointment bookings | Scheduling from Core plan | Squarespace Scheduling (Acuity), added on |
| Online store | From Core; standard and advanced tiers | On all plans; better value from Core |
| Custom code | Developer platform on higher plans | CSS and JavaScript from Core |
| Add-on apps | Large Wix App Market | Smaller set of extensions |
| Team editing | 2 to 100 collaborators by plan | 2 contributors on Basic, unlimited from Core |
For a simple lead-generation site, both are capable. If you only need one page for a campaign, our guide on landing page vs full website helps you decide what to build.
Export limits: what happens if you want to leave
This is the part most owners discover too late. Neither platform lets you take your site design elsewhere.
What you can take with you
- Squarespace: layout pages, one blog with posts and images to a WordPress XML file
- Squarespace: products as a CSV file
- Wix: products, contacts and CMS collections as CSV files
- Both: your domain name, if registered in your name
What you cannot
- Wix: the site itself; Wix says its sites must run on Wix's servers
- Squarespace: store pages, events, portfolios, videos, custom CSS and style settings
- Squarespace: more than one blog
- Both: the design, which has to be rebuilt
Sources: Squarespace's exporting your site article and Wix's exporting or embedding your Wix site article. Keep your domain registered in your own name at a registrar you control, so changing builder later does not mean losing the domain or email.
Which one suits which business
List how customers will pay
PayNow-heavy businesses lean to Wix with HitPay, or to WordPress or Shopify. Card-only or no online payments makes either fine.
Decide if you need bookings
Wix includes scheduling from Core. On Squarespace, bookings usually mean adding Squarespace Scheduling, built on Acuity.
Try both editors for an hour
Wix's free plan and Squarespace's 14-day trial let you build the home page in each before paying.
Price two years, not one
Include the domain after year one, payment fees, apps and the renewal price of the plan.
Plan your exit
If you expect to outgrow a builder within two years, consider WordPress or Shopify now to avoid a second rebuild.
Do it yourself or get help?
Both builders are designed for owners to use themselves, and many small businesses do well with a template and a weekend. Help is worth it when you want a site that ranks and converts from day one, or need payments, bookings and domain email connected properly.
Our Business Website (S$1,490) builds up to 6 mobile-first pages with on-page SEO and a contact form that you can edit yourself. If you are already on Wix or Squarespace and want to move to another platform, Website Migration (S$490) handles the move and keeps your domain and email working.
Frequently asked questions
On the entry plans they are close. As of October 2026, Squarespace Basic was SGD 22 a month on annual billing, and Wix Light was US$17 a month on a yearly plan, though Wix Light cannot take payments. To sell or take bookings you need Wix Core at US$29 or Squarespace Core at SGD 31 for zero store fees.
On Wix, yes, through HitPay, which Wix lists as a supported payment provider in Singapore with PayNow QR among its methods. Squarespace in Singapore connects Stripe and PayPal, and PayNow is not among the payment methods Squarespace lists for Stripe, so check carefully if PayNow matters to your customers.
Not directly. Wix says its sites run only on Wix's servers and cannot be hosted elsewhere, so the design and pages must be rebuilt. You can export some data such as products and contacts as CSV files. Squarespace can export some pages and one blog to a WordPress file, but store pages and design do not transfer.
Both cover the essentials: custom titles and descriptions, clean URLs, sitemaps, alt text and redirects. Rankings depend far more on useful content, page speed, local reviews and a complete Google Business Profile than on the builder. Choose on payments, bookings and editing comfort, then focus on content.
On the Basic plan, Squarespace charges a 2% transaction fee on online store sales and 7% on digital content and memberships, according to its pricing page in October 2026. Core removes the store fee and charges 5% on content and memberships, and Advanced charges 0% on both. Stripe or PayPal processing fees apply on top.
