Short answer
Use Shopify Payments for cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and add HitPay only if your customers want PayNow or local wallets. HitPay orders on Shopify carry HitPay's fee, a 0.5% app fee and Shopify's third-party fee (2% on Basic), so keep cards on Shopify Payments.
Shopify Payments vs HitPay: the short comparison
Both work inside the Shopify checkout. The difference is what they accept and how Shopify charges you for each.

Shopify Payments fees in Singapore by plan
Shopify sets card rates by plan. Higher plans cost more each month but take a smaller cut of each sale.
| Shopify plan (paid yearly) | Online card rate | Amex and international cards | Third-party transaction fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic, S$29/mo | 3.2% + S$0.50 | 3.6% + S$0.50 | 2% |
| Grow, S$99/mo | 3.1% + S$0.50 | 3.5% + S$0.50 | 1% |
| Advanced, S$399/mo | 3% + S$0.50 | 3.4% + S$0.50 | 0.6% |
| Plus, from US$2,300/mo | 2.9% + S$0.50 | 3.3% + S$0.50 | 0.2% |
According to Shopify's Singapore payment methods page, Shopify Payments accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. Its local payment methods are for overseas customers (such as iDEAL in the Netherlands), and GrabPay is listed as early access for eligible Singapore stores. PayNow is not listed.
What HitPay costs on a Shopify store
HitPay's published Singapore rates for online payments are 0.65% + S$0.30 for PayNow payments of S$100 and above, 0.9% (minimum S$0.20) for PayNow under S$100, 2.8% + S$0.50 for domestic cards and 3.65% + S$0.50 for international cards. On Shopify, HitPay adds a 0.5% app fee.
Shopify then adds its own third-party transaction fee. Shopify's help centre on third-party payment providers says this applies to transactions through third-party gateways even when Shopify Payments is also active. On Basic, that is another 2%.
Fees worked through: example orders
Approximate fees per order on standard published rates, October 2026, before GST, for a store on Shopify Basic and on Grow.
| Order | Shopify Payments (card) | HitPay PayNow on Basic | HitPay PayNow on Grow |
|---|---|---|---|
| S$50 | S$2.10 | S$1.70 | S$1.20 |
| S$100 | S$3.70 | S$3.45 | S$2.45 |
| S$300 | S$10.10 | S$9.75 | S$6.75 |
Two things stand out. First, PayNow through HitPay is only slightly cheaper than a card on Shopify Payments for a Basic store, because of Shopify's 2% fee; the case for PayNow is mostly that some customers prefer it. Second, don't route card payments through HitPay on Shopify: a S$100 card order would cost about S$5.80 (HitPay card fee, 0.5% app fee and 2% Shopify fee) against S$3.70 through Shopify Payments.
Payouts and account requirements
- Shopify Payments payouts. Shopify's Singapore payouts page sets a minimum settlement time of 4 business days. New stores start with a longer settlement time that shortens as you fulfil orders reliably. You can choose daily, weekly or monthly payouts; the minimum payout is S$1.
- Shopify Payments requirements. You need a full SGD checking account with a Singapore bank that accepts FAST or RTGS transfers; savings and multi-currency accounts are not supported. Shopify says Singapore accounts must be verified within 120 days, or checkout stops accepting new orders.
- HitPay payouts. HitPay states that non-card payments, including PayNow, reach your HitPay balance on T+1 calendar day, and card balances from T+1 business day, with the final schedule set by its compliance team.
Running both means two payout streams to reconcile. Our guide to connecting Shopify, Stripe or HitPay to Xero shows how to match payouts and fees in your books.
Which setup suits your store
| Your store | Recommended setup | Why |
|---|---|---|

| Many local customers ask for PayNow | Shopify Payments for cards plus HitPay for PayNow | PayNow available; cards stay on cheaper rails |
| High PayNow volume on Basic | Consider upgrading to Grow | Third-party fee halves from 2% to 1% |
| Customers want Atome, ShopeePay or other wallets | Add HitPay | Shopify Payments doesn't offer these in Singapore |

Do it yourself or get help?
Setting up Shopify Payments takes a short form, a Singapore bank account and Singpass verification. Adding HitPay means opening a HitPay account, installing its Shopify app and testing a live PayNow payment. Before you launch, make a real low-value order through each method and refund it, and check that receipts and order confirmations show the right business name.
If you would rather hand it over, our Shopify Store package (S$1,890) builds the store with Shopify Payments set up and GST configured. Online Payment Setup (S$290) adds HitPay for PayNow to an existing store, with test transactions. You pay Shopify and HitPay fees directly; IT Sorted takes no commission from either.
