Short answer
The Generative AI report in Search Console counts impressions: how often links to your site were shown in AI Overviews and AI Mode. You can group by pages, countries, devices and dates. Google says it reached all sites by 31 August 2026; if it is missing, your site has too few AI impressions yet.
What the Generative AI report is
Google's Search Central post Introducing Search Generative AI performance reports in Search Console, dated 3 June 2026, launched dedicated views of a site's impressions within generative AI features on Search, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode, plus a separate report for generative AI features in Discover. The first rollout was to a subset of websites. A note added to the post says: "As of August 31, 2026, we've rolled out these insights to all websites worldwide."
The post also says this data is already included in the overall Performance report. The new report is a separate view, not extra traffic: your AI Overview impressions were already in your total impressions before, just not broken out.
What the report counts and how to read each view
Google's help page, Generative AI performance report (Search), defines impressions as how many times links to your site were shown to a user in a generative AI feature on Google Search. The features included are AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Google says it expects to update that list over time.
| View | What it groups by | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Chart | Total impressions for the property | Two links from your site in one AI answer count as one impression in the chart total |
| Pages | Final URL linked after redirects | Mostly assigned to the canonical URL, as in the normal Performance report |
| Countries | Where the search came from | Filter to Singapore to see local visibility |
| Devices | Desktop, tablet or mobile | Useful if mobile and desktop differ a lot |
| Dates | Days, weeks or months | All dates in Pacific Time; newest data can be preliminary (dotted line) |
| Search type filter | Web text-based or web multimodal | Multimodal includes Google Lens, Circle to Search and image searches |
The help page describes the report in terms of impressions and does not list a query dimension or a clicks column. To see which searches send you visitors, keep using the main Performance report alongside it.
Limits Google lists for this report
Google is open that the data has the same caveats as the rest of Search Console. From the help page:
- If you don't see the report, it usually means your site hasn't received enough impressions in generative AI features yet.
- The usual limits of the Search performance report apply, including the 1,000-row limit on the table.
- Chart totals can differ from table totals because the chart aggregates by property and the page table by page.
- Newest data may be preliminary and change within hours.
- In exports, values shown as ~ or - (not available) become zeros.
Two practical consequences for a small site: low-traffic sites may see nothing for a while, and small numbers swing a lot week to week. Look at monthly views before drawing conclusions.
Three decisions a small business can make from it
Impressions alone will not tell you revenue, but they do show which pages Google's AI features rely on. That is enough for three useful decisions.
Check the pages that appear most are accurate
Sort the Pages view by impressions. If an old price list, a discontinued service or an outdated policy page is near the top, update it first. AI answers can repeat whatever your page says.
Compare AI impressions with your key service pages
If your main service or booking pages are missing while blog posts appear, strengthen those service pages: clear headings, prices where you can, opening hours, area served and an FAQ section in plain language.
Filter to Singapore and mobile
Most local customers search on phones. If Singapore mobile impressions are flat while overall impressions grow, your visibility may be coming from overseas searches that will never buy.
Our guide to visibility in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews covers how to make pages easier for AI features to use. Google's own advice is in its optimising for generative AI search documentation.
When AI impressions are zero or falling
Zero AI impressions on a small site is common and not a penalty. Before changing content, confirm the basics are right: pages indexed, no accidental noindex, and the site loading quickly on mobile. If the site is not appearing in normal Search either, start with our website not showing on Google checklist.
If impressions were steady and then dropped, check the date against your own changes (a redesign, a new URL structure, removed pages) before assuming a Google change. The Pages view helps here: a URL that disappeared from the list may have been redirected or blocked.
Do it yourself or get help?
Reading the report takes ten minutes a month. The work it points to, such as fixing outdated pages, improving service pages and solving indexing or speed problems, is where most small sites need a hand.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, as impressions. The Generative AI performance report shows how often links to your site appeared in AI Overviews and AI Mode on Google Search, grouped by page, country, device and date. Google's help page describes impressions; for clicks and the searches behind them, use the standard Performance report.
Google's help page says this usually happens when your site hasn't received enough impressions in generative AI features on Google Search. Google says the report rolled out to all websites worldwide by 31 August 2026, so if it is missing, your site may simply not be shown in AI features often enough yet.
Yes. Google's June 2026 announcement says generative AI impressions are included in the overall Performance report and continue to be tracked there. The new report is a separate view that breaks them out, so do not add the two numbers together.
For Search, Google lists AI Overviews and AI Mode and says it expects to update the list over time. Generative AI features in Google Discover have their own separate report. The Search report can be filtered between text-based web searches and multimodal searches such as Google Lens and Circle to Search.
Use it to see which of your pages Google's AI features show most, then make sure those pages are accurate, current and clear about prices, services and areas served. Compare Singapore and mobile impressions with overall numbers, and review monthly rather than weekly because small sites see big swings.
