Moving Office in Singapore: IT Checklist for Internet and Wi-Fi

The most common office-move IT problem in Singapore is simple: the new internet line is not ready on moving day. Business fibre orders can take weeks, and longer if the building needs work, so order it as soon as the lease is signed and plan a mobile backup. This guide gives a week-by-week IT checklist for an office move: internet and a temporary 4G or 5G link, the network and Wi-Fi plan, phones and printers, updating your address with ACRA, Google and customers, and wiping old equipment before it leaves.

Key takeaways

  • Order fibre the week you sign the lease; IMDA tracks non-residential fibre orders against four calendar weeks.
  • Have a 4G or 5G router ready so the team can work if the line is late.
  • Plan network points and Wi-Fi access points before the fit-out contractor closes the ceilings.
  • ACRA must be told of a new registered office address within 14 days.
  • Wipe or destroy drives in old PCs, printers and routers before you sell, return or dump them.

Short answer

Order business fibre as soon as the lease is signed (allow four weeks or more), arrange a 4G or 5G router as backup, plan Wi-Fi and cabling before fit-out, move phone numbers and printers, update ACRA within 14 days plus your website and Google profile, and securely wipe any equipment you dispose of.

Office move IT timeline at a glance

Work back from your moving date. The internet line has the longest lead time, so it goes first.

Business internet: order fibre early and plan a backup

Most Singapore offices connect through the NetLink Trust fibre network, with your internet service provider (ISP) selling the service. IMDA's quality-of-service reports on NetLink Trust fibre connections measure non-residential orders against a target of four calendar weeks from the service order. Your ISP's own processes, building access and any extra works come on top, so treat four weeks as a minimum, not a promise.

  1. Ask the landlord about fibre in the unit

Check whether there is a fibre termination point in the unit, which ISPs already serve the building, and who arranges access to the riser and the building's comms room.

  2. Get quotes for business broadband

Compare speed, contract length, static IP options, installation fee and the fault-repair commitment. A business plan with a faster repair commitment is worth more than extra speed.

  3. Book the installation date

Ask for an appointment before your move date and confirm in writing. Ask what happens if the installer cannot get access on the day.

  4. Arrange a mobile backup

A 4G or 5G router with a business data SIM keeps email, cloud files and payments working if the line is late or fails later. Test it at the new office before moving day.

  5. Decide what happens to the old line

Check whether the old contract can be relocated or must be terminated, and the notice period, so you do not pay for two lines longer than needed.

Network, Wi-Fi and cabling plan

Sit down with the fit-out contractor early. Running a network cable to a ceiling access point costs little during fit-out and a lot after.

Network plan for the new office

Our guide to office network and Wi-Fi setup covers equipment choices and prices in more detail.

Phones, printers and other devices

  • Fixed-line numbers: ask your current provider early whether your numbers can move to the new address, and what it costs. If you use a cloud phone system or mobile numbers, check only that it works on the new network.
  • Printers and scanners: they get a new IP address on a new network, which breaks printing and scan-to-email. Note the settings before the move and plan an hour to redo them.
  • Card terminals and POS: confirm whether they use Wi-Fi, a cable or a SIM, and test a payment on the new network before opening.
  • CCTV, door access and alarms: if moving these, check whether the vendor needs to reconfigure them. If you are installing new cameras, our CCTV and PDPA guide covers the notice rules.
  • Equipment list: record every device leaving the old office and arriving at the new one, so nothing goes missing in the move.

Update your address everywhere

ACRA's guide to updating an entity's information says registered entities must notify ACRA of changes, including the registered office address and office hours, within 14 days of the change (foreign companies have 30 days). That is only one of the places your address lives.

Address change list

Change your Google Business Profile address on or just after moving day, not weeks earlier. Google may ask you to verify the new location again. Our Google Business Profile setup guide covers verification.

Old equipment: wipe data before it leaves

  • Laptops and PCs: use the built-in reset with drive wiping, or erase the encryption key on an encrypted drive and then reset. For faulty drives, physical destruction or a disk shredding service.
  • Leased photocopiers and printers: many store scanned and printed pages on an internal drive. Ask the leasing company how it wipes them and get it in writing.
  • Routers and Wi-Fi access points: factory reset them so saved passwords and VPN settings go too.
  • Paper files: shred or use a document disposal vendor; do not leave boxes at the loading bay.
  • Accounts: cancel the old office's internet, phone and any building access cards you no longer need.

Do it yourself or get help?

For a small office of a few people, an organised office manager can run this checklist with the ISP and fit-out contractor. The parts that most often go wrong are the fibre date, printers after the move and forgotten address updates. If you are setting up IT for a brand-new company at the same time, our new company IT setup cost guide lists the rest.

We can help remotely with specific jobs: a Quick Fix (1 hour) (S$119) covers tasks like reconfiguring a printer's scan-to-email or updating DNS and website contact details. A Security Health Check (S$290) after the move reviews your domain, website, email and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace settings and gives you a ranked fix list. IT Sorted works remotely, so on-site cabling and installation stay with your ISP and fit-out contractor.

Frequently asked questions

Allow at least four weeks. IMDA's quality-of-service reports for NetLink Trust track non-residential fibre orders against a four-calendar-week target from the service order, and your ISP's process, building access and any works can add time. Order as soon as the lease is signed and arrange a 4G or 5G backup.

Yes, if the registered office address changes. ACRA says registered entities must notify it of changes, including the registered office address and office hours, within 14 days of the change. Foreign companies have 30 days. File the change through Bizfile.

Use a 4G or 5G router with a business data plan as a temporary connection for email, cloud files and payments. Test it at the new office before the move. Ask your ISP for a firm installation date in writing and keep the old line until the new one is working, if your contract allows.

Securely wipe or destroy the data before the device leaves your control. PDPC recommends securely wiping, sanitising or destroying personal data before redeploying, exchanging or disposing of hardware, for example erasing the encryption key and resetting the drive, or using physical destruction or a disk shredding service for faulty drives.

On or just after moving day, once the new office is open to customers. Changing it weeks early can send customers to an empty unit. Google may ask you to verify the new location, so make sure someone who manages the profile can complete Google's verification steps promptly.
