Short answer
On Arena's Chinese leaderboard (20 Oct 2026), Gemini 4 Argon and Claude Opus 5.5 ranked top. Any leading model can draft usable Chinese copy; the bigger risks are mainland-style tone and wrong local terms, so a native Singapore Chinese speaker should review every ad.
What the published evidence shows
Arena (formerly LMArena) ranks AI models from blind head-to-head votes: people submit a prompt, see two anonymous answers and pick the better one. It publishes a separate board for prompts written in Chinese. We read the official Arena leaderboard dataset (style-controlled ratings) published 20 October 2026.
| Rank | Model | Maker | Arena score | Votes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gemini 4 Argon (High) | 1589 ± 32 | 361 | |
| 2 | Claude Opus 5.5 (High) | Anthropic | 1571 ± 21 | 860 |
| 3 | Claude Fable 5.1 (Max) | Anthropic | 1568 ± 18 | 1,198 |
| 4 | Claude Fable 5 (High) | Anthropic | 1554 ± 11 | 3,248 |
| 11 | Kimi K3 (Max) | Moonshot | 1541 ± 12 | 2,501 |
| 12 | GPT-5.6 Sol (xHigh) | OpenAI | 1540 ± 11 | 3,238 |
| 17 | Qwen3.8-Max | Alibaba | 1537 | 2,205 |
| 44 | GPT-6 Astra (Max) | OpenAI | 1512 | 1,020 |
Two cautions. First, the top scores overlap: Gemini 4 Argon's lead rests on only 361 votes and a wide ± 32 margin, so the top few are effectively tied. Second, the board covers every kind of Chinese prompt, including maths, coding and general questions, not marketing copy. Our LLM benchmarks explainer explains how to read these numbers.
Other benchmarks and why they don't settle it
Other public evidence points the same way but measures different skills.
- Artificial Analysis Multilingual Index: when we checked on 22 October 2026, its Chinese results still listed earlier models, with Claude Opus 4.6 and Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview at 94. It measures knowledge and reasoning in Chinese, not writing style.
- SEA-HELM: AI Singapore's leaderboard covers Burmese, Filipino, Indonesian, Malay, Tamil, Thai and Vietnamese, not Chinese, so it doesn't help here.
- Translation tests: our guide to the best AI for Chinese-English translation covers human-graded translation results, which is a different task from writing original ads.
The practical reading: the leading Claude and Gemini models are a strong starting point for Chinese, Chinese-made models such as Qwen and Kimi are competitive, and the gap between the top ten is small enough that your prompt and review process matter more than the logo.
Writing for Singapore, not mainland China
AI models learn most of their Chinese from mainland sources, so their default voice often sounds like a Taobao listing or a mainland brand account. Singapore readers notice.
| Issue | What AI tends to do | What to ask for |
|---|---|---|
| Local terms | Uses mainland words for everyday things | Singapore usage, such as 组屋 for HDB flats, 巴刹 for markets |
| Tone | Hype-heavy slogans and stacked superlatives | Plain, friendly and practical, with claims you can back up |
| Prices and units | RMB, 元, mainland date formats | S$, Singapore dates, local addresses and MRT stations |
| Mixed language | Pure formal Chinese | Natural mix where your customers use it, such as English brand names |
| Platforms | Mainland platforms (WeChat Moments, Xiaohongshu style) | Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Google formats |
Singapore uses simplified characters, as mainland China does, so ask explicitly for simplified Chinese (简体中文). Traditional characters suit Hong Kong or Taiwan audiences instead. Our bilingual website guide covers the same choices for web pages.
A prompt that gets better Chinese copy
Give the model the context a local copywriter would need. A template:
- "Write in simplified Chinese for Singapore readers aged [age range], not mainland China."
- "Business: [what you sell], [area or outlets]. Offer: [exact offer, price in S$, end date]."
- "Platform: Instagram caption, max 120 characters, plus 3 headline options under 15 characters."
- "Tone: warm, plain, no exaggerated claims. Use Singapore terms for places and everyday things."
- "Keep these English words as they are: [brand names, product names]."
- "Don't add any claim, guarantee or number that isn't in this brief."
Paste the English version too and say whether you want a translation or a fresh Chinese version written for the same goal. Fresh versions often read better.
How to run your own 30-minute test
Because no benchmark tests Singapore Chinese ad copy, a short test with your own material is the most reliable guide.
Pick three real briefs
For example a promotion post, a product description and a short ad headline set.
Use the same prompt in two or three tools
Such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini on your business plans, with identical wording.
Hide which tool wrote what
Copy outputs into a document labelled A, B and C.
Ask a native Singapore Chinese speaker to rank them
Score naturalness, local fit, accuracy against the brief and whether they'd stop scrolling.
Keep the winner's prompt
Save the best prompt as a template and reuse it, rather than switching tools every week.
Use business plans for this, not free personal accounts, if the briefs contain unreleased offers or customer information. Our ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini comparison covers plan prices and data terms.
Do it yourself or get help?
For social posts, AI drafts plus a native speaker's review are enough for most businesses. The review is the step not to skip: a Singapore Chinese speaker on your team, or a freelance copy-editor, catches what no benchmark measures.
Our Extra Ad Creative Pack (S$290) gives you 6 static ad designs from your photos, each exported in 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16, with 3 headline and 3 primary-text variants for testing, checked against platform text and image rules, plus editable source files and 2 rounds of revisions. For Chinese versions, send us your approved Chinese text in the brief. IT Sorted is a Singapore-based team of developers with over 10 years of experience; you pay upfront and brief us in writing.
Frequently asked questions
On Arena's Chinese leaderboard published 20 October 2026, Gemini 4 Argon (High) ranked first and Claude Opus 5.5 (High) second, with several other Claude and Gemini models close behind. The top scores overlap within their confidence intervals, and the board covers all kinds of Chinese prompts, not only marketing copy, so test with your own briefs.
ChatGPT can produce usable Chinese copy, but on Arena's Chinese board of 20 October 2026 the best-ranked OpenAI model, GPT-5.6 Sol (xHigh), placed 12th, behind leading Gemini and Claude models. Differences near the top are small. Whichever tool you use, ask for Singapore readers and simplified characters, and have a native speaker review it.
Simplified. Singapore uses simplified Chinese characters, like mainland China. Traditional characters suit audiences in Hong Kong or Taiwan. Ask the AI explicitly for simplified Chinese for Singapore readers, because without that instruction some tools mix in traditional characters or default to a mainland style of writing.
Not for this. AI Singapore's SEA-HELM leaderboard covers Southeast Asian languages such as Malay, Indonesian, Thai, Tamil and Vietnamese, not Chinese. For Chinese, the closest published evidence is Arena's Chinese-language leaderboard and Artificial Analysis's multilingual index, neither of which tests marketing copy specifically.
Yes. AI often writes in a mainland voice, uses mainland terms for everyday things, or adds claims that weren't in your brief. A native Singapore Chinese speaker should check tone, local terms, and that prices, dates and offers match the English version before anything is published, especially for paid ads.
