Short answer
An AI website builder suits a simple brochure site or landing page if you write your own content and accept the platform's hosting. Hire a designer or developer for integrations, a migration, strong SEO structure or code you own. Many businesses do best with a hybrid: AI draft, human finish.
AI website builder vs designer vs hybrid at a glance
AI website builder
Free to about US$40/month
- Draft site in minutes from a prompt
- You write and check all content
- Hosting locked to the platform (Wix, Framer)
- Good templates, limited custom logic
Best for: Simple brochure sites and quick landing pages.
Hybrid: AI draft, human finish
Often best value- AI speeds up layout and first copy
- A person fixes structure, SEO, forms and tracking
- You still choose the platform you can manage
- Lower cost than a full custom build
Best for: Most small businesses with a clear offer.
Designer or developer
Project fee
- Content and structure planned around your customers
- Integrations: booking, payments, CRM, InvoiceNow
- Migration from an old site without losing rankings
- Code or platform you can move later
Best for: Sites that must sell, integrate or rank in competitive searches.
Our guide to website costs in Singapore sets out typical budgets for each route.
What AI website builders do well
Wix's AI website builder page describes creating a site from a prompt and then switching between AI generation and drag-and-drop editing. Framer and others work similarly, and app builders such as Lovable generate a working web app from a chat.
- Speed to a first draft: layout, colour scheme, sections and placeholder copy in minutes.
- Low starting cost: free plans to try, then monthly plans instead of a project fee.
- Easy edits: non-technical owners can change text and images themselves.
- Hosting included: SSL, hosting and updates handled by the platform.
- Good for testing ideas: a landing page for a new service or event can go live the same day.
Where AI builders fall short: content, SEO and integrations
The weak spots are the same ones that decide whether a site brings in customers.
- Content: AI writes generic copy. It does not know your prices, service area, licences, turnaround times or why customers pick you. If you publish the draft as is, you sound like every competitor.
- SEO structure: AI drafts often produce one long page or vague headings. Search needs a page per service, clear titles and descriptions, and internal links.
- Facts and claims: AI can invent statistics, awards or reviews. Anything like that on your site is your responsibility.
- Integrations: booking with deposits, PayNow or card payments, CRM, WhatsApp, accounting or InvoiceNow usually need set-up beyond the builder's defaults.
- Migrations: moving from an old site needs redirects so you do not lose existing search traffic, which builders do not plan for you.
- Speed and accessibility: generated sites can be heavy, with large images and animations that slow phones down.
AI website builder prices and lock-in (October 2026)
Prices change often and most builders sell AI usage in credits. These are list prices from each vendor's pricing page, checked 19 October 2026.
| Builder | Free plan | Entry paid plan | Can you take the site elsewhere? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wix | Yes, Wix branding | Light US$17/month (yearly); Core US$29 adds payments | No: Wix says sites must run on its servers |
| Framer | Yes, Framer domain | Basic SGD 12/month (yearly); Pro SGD 35 | No: Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting |
| Lovable | Yes, 5 daily credits | Pro US$25/month, 100 credits; Business US$50 | Yes: code can sync to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket |
Wix's export help article says a Wix site needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers, though you can keep your domain with another provider. Framer's help centre says it does not offer HTML export. Lovable's Git sync documentation lets you keep the code in your own repository. Whatever you choose, register the domain in your own name.
A hybrid approach that works
You can use AI for what it is good at and keep people for the parts that matter.
Write your own brief first
Services, prices or price ranges, service area, proof (licences, certifications, real photos) and the one action you want visitors to take.
Generate a draft with AI
Use the builder's AI to create the layout and a first version of the copy from your brief.
Rewrite the copy in your words
Replace generic lines with specifics. Remove any claim, statistic or review you cannot back up.
Fix structure for search
One page per main service, clear headings, titles and descriptions, and links between pages.
Set up the working parts
Contact or booking forms, WhatsApp button, payments, analytics, privacy policy and business email on your domain.
Check speed and mobile
Compress images, test on a phone, and run Google PageSpeed Insights before launch.
Our guide to choosing a web designer in Singapore covers what to ask if you want help with some of these steps.
Which route suits your business
An AI builder on its own is enough if
- You need a simple site or landing page quickly
- You can write clear content about your services
- You are happy to stay on the builder's platform
- No payments, bookings or customer data beyond a contact form
Get a designer or developer if
- You are replacing an existing site that already gets search traffic
- You need bookings with deposits, payments, CRM or accounting links
- You compete on search for valuable local keywords
- You want code or a platform you can move later
Do it yourself or get help?
If you have a clear offer and a weekend, an AI builder plus the hybrid steps above can produce a respectable site. The common failure is publishing the AI draft unchanged and wondering why nobody calls.
Our Landing Page (S$690) builds a focused one-page site with your copy, enquiry form and WhatsApp button. The Business Website (S$1,490) covers up to six pages with on-page SEO, built on a platform you own and can manage yourself.
Frequently asked questions
For a simple brochure site or landing page, often yes, provided you rewrite the AI copy with your real services, prices and proof, and set up forms and SEO basics properly. It is less suitable when you need payments, bookings, integrations, a careful migration from an existing site, or code you can move to another host.
As of October 2026, Wix, Framer and Lovable all have free plans. Paid plans start at about US$17 a month for Wix Light on a yearly plan, SGD 12 a month for Framer Basic on a yearly plan, and US$25 a month for Lovable Pro. Prices exclude GST and AI credits may cost extra.
No. Wix says its sites need to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers, and Framer says it does not offer HTML export for self-hosting. You can keep your domain elsewhere and point it at the builder, but moving platforms means rebuilding the site. Lovable is different: its code can sync to your own Git repository.
It can, but the builder does not do the work for you. Ranking depends on useful, specific content, a page per service, clear titles and descriptions, fast loading and links from other sites. AI drafts tend to be generic and thin, so rewrite them, structure pages around what customers search for and check speed on mobile.
ChatGPT and similar assistants can help write copy, plan pages and generate code, but you still need somewhere to host the site, a domain, forms and security. For most small businesses, using AI inside a website builder, or asking AI for a draft and having a designer finish it, is more practical than building from raw generated code.
