Short answer
On Shopify, agentic storefronts make eligible products discoverable in ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Meta at no extra fee. ChatGPT sends buyers to your own checkout; in-chat checkout elsewhere is limited to certain countries. Focus on product data.
What AI shopping agents are, in plain terms
A shopper asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot something like "waterproof hiking shoes under S$150". The assistant searches product data, shows a shortlist with prices and images, and links to a store or, on some platforms, offers to buy inside the chat. The data comes from product feeds that merchants or platforms share, and from crawling websites.
OpenAI's shopping results help page says product results are selected independently, are not ads, and that merchants are ranked on factors like availability, price, quality and whether they are the maker or primary seller. It also says Shopify merchants' product data is already integrated through Shopify Catalog, with no extra work needed.
What's available to Singapore merchants (October 2026)
Programmes change quickly, so this table only lists what the vendors' own pages say.
| Platform | How products get there | Checkout | Singapore notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Shopify Catalog (automatic for eligible Shopify stores); direct feeds for approved partners | Buyer goes to your own store checkout | Discovery works for eligible stores; no extra Shopify fee |
| Google AI Mode and Gemini | Google & YouTube channel or Merchant Center | UCP checkout for select merchants | Checkout applies to US, Canada and Australia products |
| Microsoft Copilot | Shopify Catalog via agentic storefronts | Direct checkout if activated | Check eligibility in your Shopify admin |
| Meta (Meta AI, Muse) | Facebook and Instagram channel | Direct checkout if activated | Direct checkout shown only to US, Canada and Mexico customers |

Turn on and check agentic storefronts in Shopify
Shopify says agentic storefronts are active by default for eligible stores. It is still worth checking, because ineligible stores are silently left out.
Open Sales channels, Agentic
In your Shopify admin, check which AI channels are active and whether Shopify Catalog shows any ineligibility reason.
Check catalog eligibility
Shopify's Catalog requirements include being on the Starter plan or higher, not being password-protected, products not Unlisted or hidden from search engines, and good account standing (low chargebacks, prompt fulfilment).
Connect Google & YouTube
Google AI Mode and Gemini use the Google & YouTube channel or Merchant Center, not Shopify Catalog alone.
Decide on each AI channel
You can remove a channel's access if, for example, your products need regulated sales checks.
Watch attribution
Shopify shows orders from AI channels with channel or referrer attribution, so you can see whether it's worth the effort.
Note Shopify's point for ChatGPT: put any legally required product disclosures in the first 6,000 characters of the description.
Product data AI assistants actually read
Shopify's guide to optimising products for AI platforms lists the fields AI platforms consider: title, description, images, product type, vendor, collections, tags and barcode (GTIN, UPC, ISBN). Good data helps you in Google Shopping and normal search too.

Our Shopify SEO checklist covers the overlap with search, and Shopify's own AI tools are reviewed in our Shopify Magic and Sidekick guide.
What not to pay "AI SEO" agencies for
A new wave of agencies sells "ChatGPT ranking" or "AI shopping optimisation". Some of the work is useful; much of it repackages what Shopify already does for free.
Worth paying for
- Rewriting weak product titles and descriptions across the catalogue
- Adding missing barcodes, variants and structured data
- Fixing feed errors in Google Merchant Center
- Cleaning up policies, shipping and stock sync
Be sceptical of
- Guaranteed placement or "ranking #1 in ChatGPT"
- Paid "submission" to ChatGPT for a Shopify store (it's automatic)
- Monthly fees for an llms.txt file alone
- Fake reviews or mass-generated comparison pages
OpenAI says product results aren't ads and aren't influenced by partnerships, so nobody can sell you guaranteed placement there. For more on how AI search picks sources, see our AI search visibility guide; for crawler controls, see blocking AI crawlers with robots.txt.
Do it yourself or get help?
Checking the Agentic section and fixing obvious product data gaps is a good DIY afternoon for a small catalogue. Help pays off for larger catalogues where titles, descriptions, barcodes and variants need cleaning in bulk, or where the Google channel and Merchant Center have unresolved errors.
Our Speed & SEO Fix (S$390) cleans up product data, structured data and feed errors on an existing store. If you're starting from scratch, our Shopify Store package (S$1,890) sets up products with AI-ready data from day one.
Frequently asked questions
If you use Shopify and your store is eligible, your products can already appear in ChatGPT through Shopify Catalog, with buyers sent to your own store checkout. Shopify lists no extra fee for this. OpenAI's direct product feed programme is limited to approved partners, so most small merchants rely on Shopify Catalog.
No. OpenAI says shopping results are selected independently, are not ads and aren't influenced by partnerships. Shopify says there are no fees for selling through ChatGPT beyond your normal payment processing fees. Be wary of anyone selling guaranteed placement or paid submission for a Shopify store.
In limited cases. ChatGPT sends Shopify buyers to your own checkout. Google's UCP checkout in AI Mode and Gemini currently applies to products in the US, Canada and Australia for select merchants, and Meta's direct checkout is shown only to customers in the US, Canada and Mexico, as of October 2026.
In Shopify, go to Sales channels, Agentic, and remove a channel's access to Shopify Catalog. Shopify notes products may still be found through other means such as web crawling. To hide a product completely from AI channels, Shopify suggests setting its status to Unlisted.
Shopify lists the title, description, images, product type, vendor, collections, tags and barcode as fields AI platforms consider. Accurate prices, stock levels per variant and clear shipping and returns policies also matter, since OpenAI ranks merchants partly on availability and price.
