Google Ads Advertiser Verification in Singapore: What You Need

Sooner or later Google Ads asks every advertiser to verify who they are. For a Singapore business that usually means company registration papers plus a photo ID from someone who runs the account. If you miss the deadline, the account is paused. This guide lists the documents Google accepts for Singapore, explains the difference between organisation and individual accounts, covers the reasons verification fails and how long reviews take, and explains why the ad account should be in your company's name rather than your agency's or a freelancer's.

Short answer

A Singapore company verifies as an organisation with a registration document (such as a certificate of incorporation or register extract) and a photo ID from an account admin. The names must match the payments profile exactly. Reviews take up to five working days, rarely up to 30.

What Google Ads advertiser verification is and who must do it

Advertiser verification is Google's check that an advertiser is who it claims to be. According to Google's advertiser verification help page, all advertisers will eventually have to complete it as part of a gradual rollout. Once verified, your name and location appear in ad disclosures and in the public Ads Transparency Center.

Some accounts are picked earlier. Google lists reasons such as running ads in sensitive industries like financial services, advertising on brand-related searches, using features that are often misused, or behaviour that looks suspicious. Google may also ask for verification when you target other countries or advertise in areas prone to scams, such as travel, customer support and financial services.

You will see a notice in the account or get an email with a deadline. The verification page now sits under Admin, Policy, Account in Google Ads.

Documents Google accepts for Singapore advertisers

Google's document requirements page for Singapore splits requirements by account type. The type is set in your payments profile (Billing, Settings), not chosen during verification.

Plus a photo ID of an authorised representative. The representative must be an admin of the Google Ads account or the payments profile. Their ID can be from any country.
IndividualSingapore government-issued photo ID: passport, identity card, driving licence or residence permit. For sole traders advertising under their own name.

Google does not name ACRA products, but for a Singapore company the ACRA certificate of incorporation or a current ACRA business profile, which is an extract from the register, fits the 'registration document' category. A business profile costs S$5.50 on Bizfile and arrives within 15 minutes, according to ACRA's guide to buying a business profile.

Some organisations are offered a D-U-N-S number check instead of uploading documents. After three failed matches, Google asks for documents anyway. You may also be asked to confirm a phone number, confirm your payment method with a small temporary charge, or take a video selfie with your ID.

Organisation vs individual: choose the right account type first

The most common Singapore mistake happens before verification starts. A founder signs up for Google Ads with a personal card and Gmail, the payments profile is created as 'Individual', and two years later the company tries to verify as an organisation. Google's page says that if your account type is wrong you should contact Google before starting verification.

Changing type is not always a simple edit. Google's change name or ownership guide says that if you cannot edit the account type or need to change the legal entity name, you will likely need a new payments profile, created with Google Ads support. A new profile forfeits existing promotional credits.

Why Google Ads verification fails, and how to fix it

Google names three common reasons: the document could not be verified, the name did not match, or the document type is not supported for your country and account type. In practice, most failures come down to small details.

Before you submit

If verification fails, fix the mismatch and retry from the same Account page. If the wrong organisation was verified, an admin can use Reset verification; Google gives a new deadline after a reset.

How long Google Ads verification takes and what a pause means

According to Google's timelines page, reviewing a task can take up to five working days, and in rare cases up to 30 days. Status updates in the account can also take up to five working days.

  • You have a deadline: the account is paused if you are not verified by then. Google says the deadline cannot be extended.
  • No deadline: you can verify early to unlock features such as showing your business name and logo in search ads, and to remove serving limits.
  • Already paused: ads run again only after you complete verification.
  • Suspended: you must complete verification before you can reach the appeal form.

Start the day you receive the notice. A planned campaign launch or a seasonal sale is the worst time to find out that your payments profile still says 'Individual' or uses an old company address.

Who should own your Google Ads account

Verification makes ownership visible: the verified name appears in your ads and in the Transparency Center. It is a good moment to check that the account belongs to the business.

Account in your company's name

  • Ad disclosures show your business name
  • Campaign history and data stay with you if you change agency
  • You control billing and can remove access
  • Verification uses your own ACRA documents

Account owned by an agency or freelancer

  • Disclosures may show the agency instead
  • History may be lost when the relationship ends
  • Getting access back can take weeks
  • Re-verification needed if ownership changes

The safer set-up: your company owns the Google Ads account and payments profile, and the agency gets access through its manager account. The same principle applies to domains and websites, covered in our guide to getting website and domain access back from an agency. Verification also helps against scammers copying your brand in ads, which we cover in fake ads impersonating your business.

Do it yourself or get help?

Most owners can complete verification themselves in under an hour if the payments profile is set up correctly. The time sink is fixing a wrong account type or name, which needs Google support.

Ads only pay off if they land on a page that converts. If you are about to run campaigns, our Landing Page package (S$690) builds a fast single page with tracking ready for Google Ads. For a sense of what a full site costs, see our website cost guide for Singapore.

Frequently asked questions

Google asks organisations for a registration document, such as a certificate of incorporation or registration, an extract from the commercial register, a business licence or a tax certificate, plus a government-issued photo ID of an authorised representative who is an admin on the account or payments profile. The legal name and address must match the payments profile exactly.

Google says it can take up to five working days to review a task and, in rare cases, up to 30 days. Status updates in the account can also take up to five working days. If you have a deadline, start immediately, because Google does not extend deadlines and pauses accounts that miss them.

If Google has not given you a deadline, yes, you can keep running ads, though some features and serving limits may apply until you verify. If you have a deadline and miss it, the account is paused and ads only run again after you complete verification.

Google advises contacting support before starting verification if your account type is wrong. You may be able to change it in Billing settings. If not, you will usually need a new payments profile created with Google Ads support, which forfeits any existing promotional credits.

An agency can complete tasks as an account admin, but it must answer Yes to the agency question and provide your details as the client. If the account and payments profile belong to the agency, your ads may show the agency's name. It is safer for your company to own the account and give the agency access.
